Synthesis of sub-micron spindle-shaped calcium carbonate by seeding method

Abstract: The sub-micron spindle shaped calcium carbonate was prepared with seed crystal by gas-liquid carbonation method. Factors,such as seed crystal additive amount and initial carbonation temperature,affecting the morphology of calcium carbonate were studied.The morphology and properties of products were analyzed by TEM and BET etc..Results showed that seed crystals provided the nucleation sites and the CaCO3 crystals grew on the surface of seed crystals.The sub-micron spindle shaped CaCO3 with major axis of 400~600 nm and aspect ratio up to 4 can be prepared at the initial temperature of 30~35 ℃ and with seed crystal mass fraction of 20%.
