Research progress of reduction technology for PbO2 from spent lead acid battery

Abstract: The PbO2 in spent lead acid battery is an amphoteric compound with prevalent acidic properties.It′s difficult to be recycled because of its stability.But the reduction rate of PbO2 has a significant influence on the total recycle rate of Pb in the spent lead acid battery because the content of PbO2 is only less than PbSO4.Therefore,more attention has been paid to the reduction technology of PbO2 in the spent lead acid battery.The methods to reduce PbO2 in the process of recycling spent lead acid battery and present study status were reviewed.The advantages and disadvantages of each method were analyzed.It was indicated that hydrometallurgical reduction was much better than pyrometallurgical reduction,especially the method of reducing lead dioxide by oxalic acid which was no pollution to the environment and had high value in industrial application was more ideal and worth further experimental investigation.
