Abstract: Titanium pillared montmorillonite(Ti-MMT) modified with different proportions of fluorine element was prepared with TiCl4 as the precursor. The structure of the as-prepared sample was characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD),Fourier transform infrared(FT-IR),transmission electron microscopy(TEM),and surface area/pore diameter analysis.Furthermore, the influence of fluorine doping amounts on the adsorptions of trace arsenate in drinking water was investigated. Results indi- cated that when the doping amount of hydrofluoric acid was 20 mL,the 20HF-Ti-MMT with titanium pillared structure was obtained.Anatase-type TiO2 particles were deposited on the surface of 20HF-Ti-MMT with homogeneous particle size,well-crystallized shape, high crystallization integrity, and good stability. The 20HF-Ti-MMT had better effect on adsorption of trace arsenate in drinking water than the others due to its higher specific surface area and larger surface hydroxyl content. The highest arsenate adsorption rate was 99.76%.
