Abstract:

MCM-41 mesoporous molecular sieves was synthesized under basic conditions by using TEOS as silicon source in the presence of CTAB as surfactant. The MCM-41 materials was further modified with 3-aminopropyl trimethylsilane and the amino modified mesoporous material NH2-MCM-41 absorbent was obtained successfully. Then the NH2-MCM-41 was characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD).The adsorption capability of MCM-41 and NH2-MCM-41 on methylene blue(MB) in aqueous solution was investigated under various conditions, such as temperature, amount of adsorbent,pH,initial concentration of methylene blue. The structures of MCM-41 and the amino modified mesoporous material NH2-MCM-41 were both planar hexagonal mesoporous structures. The results showed that the temperature and pH was the crucial importance in determining the adsorption capability of MCM-41 and NH2-MCM-41.The adsorption capability of the materials will be improved as the the temperature increase.Furthermore, too much lower or higher pH would decrease the adsorption capability of the materials.

Key words: MCM-41, NH2-MCM-41, methylene blue, planar hexagonal mesoporous structure
