Abstract: The preparation of pigment-grade titanium dioxide by sulfuric acid process with titanium contained material (further reduced titanium slag) from direct reduction of titanium-bearing iron ore concentrate as the raw material was studied. Experimental results showed that the acidolysis performance of further reduced titanium slag was excellent and the acidolysis rate reached 97%.The filtration performance of titanium solution obtained after the acidolysis was fine. However the excess of MgO and Al2O3 in the titanium solution caused the poor pigment performance of titanium dioxide product, which was directly prepared by this titanium solution. The suitable concentration of MgO and Al2O3 in titanium solution could be acquired by mixing the further reduced titanium slag with titanium concentrate at a certain ratio. The bad effects on the final product quality of titanium dioxide from the impurity could be avoided in this way.The optimum dosage of further reduced titanium slag was not higher than 20% of the total mass of titanium material.
