Preparation of barium carbonate with columnar-shaped bifurcation

Abstract: BaCO3 crystals were prepared by vapor diffusion method with barium chloride and ammonium carbonate as raw materials.The synthesized PEG-b-PEI-SO3H was used as an effective modifier to mediate the crystallization of BaCO3.The influences of aging time,pH,and the PEG-b-PEI-SO3H concentration on the morphologies and size of BaCO3 crystal particles were investigated.The obtained crystals were characterized by scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD).Results revealed that when the BaCl2 concentration was 20 mmol/L,the polymer mass concentration was 1 g/L,the pH was 7.0,and the reaction time was 1 d,well dispersed barium carbonate with columnar-shaped bifurcation structure could be obtained.
