Synthesis and modification of NaA zeolite and its application in polyurethane system

Abstract:

NaA zeolite was obtained by the single-mode focused microwave synthesis with sodium silicate as the silica source,sodium metaaluminate as the aluminum source.Surface modification for NaA zeolite was carried out by using silane coupling agent γ-(2,3-epoxypropoxy) propyl trimethoxysilane(KH-560),and the influences of coupling agent content(mass fraction),modification reaction temperature and reaction time on the viscosity of NaA zeolite slurry were studied.The crystal structure,particle size distribution,morphology and static water adsorption capacity of NaA zeolite before and after modification were discussed.NaA zeolites before and after modification was added into polyurethane system to study its application period.The results showed that the modified NaA zeolite were synthesized under the optimum conditions(i.e.,coupling agent content was 3%,reaction temperature was 60 ℃,reaction time was 50 min),and its viscosity in castor oil reached a minimum of (9 362±100) mPa·s.The structure and morphology of NaA zeolite were not changed before and after modification.The surface modification of NaA zeolite by using coupling agent KH-560 could effectively improve the dispersing property of NaA zeolite,reduce the slurry viscosity,and expend the pot life of NaA zeolite in polyurethane system.Adding modified NaA zeolite into polyurethane system had little effect on its mechanical properties.
