Abstract:

Relying on the existing soda ash and potassium sulfate production units,Shandong Haihua Group Co.had developed the process technology of producing high-purity magnesium oxide by continuous reaction pyrolysis with ammonium bicarbon-ate,adopting the residual bittern and soda ash calcination condensate as raw materials, and built a 500 t/a high-purity magne-sium oxide pilot test device. The pilot test device had run continuously and stably for 1 500 h,and 110 t of qualified high-purity magnesium oxide products were obtained. The average fresh water consumption per ton of products was 83 m3.The pilot test preliminarily verified the reliability of the new process of producing high purity magnesium oxide by continuous reaction pyrolysis of residual bittern and ammonium bicarbonate. The preliminary analysis of a 10 000 t/a high-purity magnesium oxide plant showed that the process had good economic and environmental benefits.

Key words: basic magnesium carbonate, residual bittern, high-purity magnesium oxide, ammonium bicarbonate process
