Study on preparation of Lignin/LDH and improvement of mechanical properties of polyurethane

Abstract:

To reduce the cost and improve the mechanical properties of polyurethane coatings,Lignin/Mg-Al layered double hydroxide composites(Lignin-LDH) were prepared by hydrothermal reaction method,which were used as fillers in the polyurethane coating system to prepare Lignin/Mg-Al layered double hydroxide/PU composite coatings(Lignin-LDH-PU).The effects of hydrothermal temperature on the properties and morphology of Lignin-LDH and the amount of Lignin-LDH on the adhesion grade,impact strength and pencil hardness of polyurethane coatings were investigated.The crystallinity,degree of recombination and thermal stability of Lignin-LDH composite fillers were increased with the increase of hydrothermal temperature.However,the recombination degree and thermal stability of lignin-LDH were decreased at the excessive hydrothermal temperature.Therefore,the optimal hydrothermal temperature was 180 ℃.The mechanical properties of Lignin-LDH-PU were increased with the increase of the addition of Lignin-LDH-180.However,the mechanical properties of lignin-LDH-PU were decreased with the excessive addition.With the optimal addition of 10% Lignin-LDH-180,the coating exhibited the best mechanical properties,including the adhesion grade of 5B,the impact strength of 115 cm(front) and 105 cm(back),and the pencil hardness of 3H.Compared to 10% LDH-PU,mechanical properties of 10%Lignin-LDH-180-PU were obviously enhanced.Therefore,Lignin-LDH-180 composite fillers prepared by hydrothermal reaction method presented good application prospect in polyurethane anticorrosive coating.
