Abstract:

Calcium looping cycle method has been considered as an effective way to capture carbon dioxide. This method takes advantage of a reversible reaction between calcium oxide-based sorbents and carbon dioxide in order to realize the recycling use of sorbents. In recent years, more attention has been paid on calcium oxide-based sorbents due to the low cost, high carbon dioxide sorption performance and wide source of raw materials, which have been widely used in hydrogen production and cement industry to capture carbon dioxide. However, the disadvantages of calcium oxide-based sorbents, such as high regeneration temperature, easily sintering of active components and rapid decline of carbon dioxide sorption performance, all hinder its industrial application. The preparation methods of calcium oxide-based sorbents with high performance were summarized and the existing problems in various application fields were analyzed. The technical routes for realizing the low temperature cycle of calcium oxide-based sorbents were put forward to provide reference for realizing large-scale industrial carbon capture.
