Abstract: The feasibility of low grade titanium slag as raw material for the production of sulfuric acid process titanium dioxide was studied. The phase composition and the distribution of impurities, such as CaO,MgO,Al2O3,SiO2,TFe,V,and Cr,from the low grade titanium slag during the manufacturing process of titanium dioxide by sulfuric acid process were analyzed. The quality of initial product of titanium dioxide was further studied. Results showed that the impurities, such as SiO2,V,Cr,and CaO,were mainly distributed in the acid composition residue, while the others, such as MgO,Al2O3,and TFe,were mainly distributed in the waste water coming from the filtrating and washing process of hydrolysate. The minor amounts of impurities remaining from the raw materials were not enough to affect the quality of the final product of titanium dioxide.
