Abstract: Two kinds of organized mesoporous alumina for loading nickel have been prepared by the conventional impregna- tion method. The synthesized catalysts were characterized by several techniques, such as BET,XRD,TPR,XPS,TEM,and ICP-OES,and their activities for the methanation of carbon monoxide were tested. The comparison with the conventional nickel-loaded alumina has also been made. The characterization results indicated that the nickel species in both kinds of organized mesoporous alumina mainly presented two states:nickel oxide and nickel metaaluminate. Two mesoporous alumina exhibited much higher capacity and better dispersion of nickel than the conventional alumina. It could attribute to high surface area(300~500 m2/g) and organized stable structure with narrow pore distribution(4~10 nm).The catalytic results shown that nickel supported on two kinds of mesoporous alumina was much more active than on  the conventional alumina for their higher loading amount and better metal dispersion performance.
