Abstract: High activity lime can obviously improve the milk production rate.In order to maximize lime activity,its activity in different calcining temperatures,heating modes,and particle sizes were investigated.The temperature rising of lime in slaking was tested and the product was characterized by laser particle size analyzer and scanning electron microscopy.Results indicated that decreased activity of lime, increased size of digestion product and extended digestion time will all be caused by any over-high calcining temperature,overlong time, and larger size of lime particles.Experiment showed that,when the calcining temperature was held at 1 000 ℃ for 2 h,lime with higher activity could be obtained.Besides the particle size at 0.075~ 0.106 mm  reflected a higher activity than that of at 0.106~0.150 mm.
