Progress and challenges of alkaline treatment for synthesis of hierarchical zeolites

Abstract:

Zeolites play essential and wide roles in chemical and energy industries.The microporous zeolites are gifted with versatile unique capabilities owing to their well-defined micropores and channel structure,which however impose limitations on the utilization of their full potentials.The hierarchical zeolites,bearing microporosity and mesoporosity,not only hold good intrinsic hydrothermal stability and strong acidity,but also acquire the good accessibility and diffusion capability.Therefore,hierarchical zeolites receive extensive investigations owing to such combination of microporous zeolites and mesoporous materials.The alkaline treatment or etching treatment in alkaline media is the exemplary method for synthesis of hierarchical zeolites,due to its simplicity in operations and cost-efficient in large-scale applications.By summarizing the synthesis methods of hierarchical zeolites and combining with the research progress at home and abroad,the development process of alkali treatment methods,the mechanism research progress of microstructure scale in alkali treatment process,and the expansion of alkali treatment methods and strategies were discussed in detail.Based on the current research status,the challenges faced in alkali treatment research and application were analyzed.Finally,the development of alkali treatment was summarized and prospected.
