Research progress of surface modification technology and flame-retardance efficiency of magnesium hydroxide

Abstract: Magnesium hydroxide is a kind of environmental friendly flame retardant because of its flame retardant,smoke suppression,and filling functions as well as its characteristics of good thermal stability,high decomposition temperature,non-corrosive,non-toxic,and odorless.Thus it is the primary choice of organic polymer flame retardant.The research progress in the modifier type and the modified conditions during the organic surface modification of magnesium hydroxide as flame retardant was reviewed.Magnesium hydroxide modified by different modifiers had been filled into various polymers,and flame-retardance properties and mechanical performances of composite materials were summarized.
