Study on preparation of nano-sized silica powder from silicon tetrachloride with hydrolysis process

Abstract: A large number of silicon tetrachloride was generated as by-product in polysilicon synthesis process.The silica powder was prepared by hydrolysis reaction using silicon tetrachloride as silica source.Effects of reaction temperature,feed rate of the silicon tetrachloride,the feed ratio of silicon tetrachloride to water,and the recycle ratio on the surface area of sili- ca powder were studied.The parameters,such as morphology and particle size of silica powder were also characterized by us- ing X-ray powder diffraction(XRD),Fourier infrared spectroscopy,BET surface area analyzer,and particle size analyzer etc..Experimental results showed that the silica powder which was able to meet the demands of rubber reinforcing agent could be obtained under the following conditions: the temperature was 50 ℃,the feed rate of the silicon tetrachloride was 2.0 L/min,the feed ratio of silicon tetrachloride to water was at 0.10~0.15,and the recycle ratio was 10 h-1
