Abstract: A process for preparation of active zinc oxide from crude zinc oxide powder by using sulfuric acid as the leaching agent was studied.The effects of the ratio of liquid to solid and the concentration of sulfuric acid on the leaching rate were discussed.Zinc sulfate solution could be purified by the adding zinc oxide powder，heating and regulating the pH，as well as adding zinc powder for replacement.Then the precursor，basic zinc carbonate was prepared by taking the ammonium hydrogen carbonate as the precipitator.Through experiments，the process parameters for preparation of active zinc oxide from crude zinc oxide powder were confirmed.Active zinc oxide was characterized with the help of TEM and XRD.Results showed that the active zinc oxide powder was in cubic and hexagonal structure with spherical shape and uniform size distribution.The mass fraction of zinc oxide was 99.48%.
