Study on preparation of organic montmorillonite composite pour point depressant and its mechanism of wax prevention and pour point reduction

Abstract:

A ternary polymeric pour point depressant was prepared by using octadecyl acrylate,vinyl acetate and sodium allyl sulfonate as raw materials and benzoyl peroxide as initiator.To improve the wax prevention and stabilization effect of polymer pour point depressant,a nano-montmorillonite composite pour point depressant was prepared by using dodecyl trimethyl ammonium chloride(DTAC) modified montmorillonite and polymer to evaluate the effect on waxy model oil.The mechanism of the action of the pour point depressant was also reasoned and analyzed by differential scanning calorimetry(DSC) and polarized light microscopy(POM).The results showed that the nanocomposite pours point depressant BYX-2(5%) could achieve 94.3% wax prevention rate and lower pour point to 21 oC for model oil at 700 mg/L addition.Compared with BYX-2 pour point agent at the same addition rate,the wax prevention rate was improved by 7.1%,the pour point was lowered by 3 oC,and the stability was improved.
