Abstract:

Natural hydraulic lime(NHL) is an inorganic adhesive material with both hydraulic and pneumatic, which is mainly used as binder for ancient building reinforcement and mural restoration.Low-grade NHL has problems such as cracking, poor water resistance, and Ca(OH)2 leaching because of its relatively slow hydration or reaction rate. The effect of the gas phase nano SiO2(powder) on the physical properties and microscopic internal structure of the hydraulic lime was studied.Based on the characteristics of natural hydrated lime and nano SiO2,adding nano SiO2 to natural hydrated lime could improve the activity of NHL to increase the content of hydrated calcium silicate in gel materials without changing the original color of lime. The experimental studies showed that the addition of nano SiO2 could increase the grade of NHL2 to NHL3.5 or even NHL5.Microanalysis of samples was conducted by using XRD,XRF,FT-IR,and SEM in the overall reaction. It was found that a large amount of calcium silicate gel material was generated in the natural hydraulic lime gel materials, which made the specimen structure compact, revealing the reason for the improvement of mechanical properties of natural hydraulic lime materials.
