Performance analysis and application of refined magnesium slag

Abstract:

Magnesium slag is a solid waste discharged during the production process of magnesium extraction and smelting.However,there are few systematic research reports on the refining of magnesium slag.In order to explore the physical and chemical properties of refined magnesium slag,the refined magnesium slag produced in a refining magnesium plant in Shanxi was used as raw material,and the physical and chemical properties were studied using high-temperature box furnace,X-ray fluorescence spectrometer(XRF),X-ray diffractometer(XRD),and scanning electron microscope-energy dispersive spec-trometer(SEM-EDS).The results showed that the main component of refined magnesium slag was MgCl2·6H2O,and the re-covery of magnesium chloride was a more feasible solution.The presence of magnesium nitride(Mg3N2) in the refined magne-sium slag indicated that the excessively high melting temperature during the melting of crude magnesium caused the refined elemental magnesium to react with nitrogen.The density adjustment of the refining flux would also directly affect the ease of separation of the magnesium beads in the refined magnesium slag.The crushing and winnowing of the magnesium slag could effectively separate the useless impurities,and would better expose the magnesium beads wrapped in the refined magnesium slag,which was beneficial to the recovery of resources.Finally,the current utilization of refined magnesium slag in China was discussed,and it was concluded that refined magnesium slag had good prospect of high-value utilization and could realize the reuse of waste resources.
