Treatment of methylene blue simulated wastewater by supported activated carbon particle with three-dimensional electrode method

Abstract

To improve the effect of electrocatalytic oxidation on methylene blue(MB) simulated wastewater by particle electrode in three-dimensional electrode system,a particle electrode(M/AC) combining metal oxides with granular activated carbon was successfully synthesized with equal volume impregnation and sintering methods and characterized.The effects of the type and loading of metal components on the catalytic performance of the particle electrode were investigated.Moreover,the reaction mechanism of the synthesized particle electrode was discussed.The results indicated that:M/AC particle electrode had multi-channel porous network structure,which could provide a large number of surface active sites.The M/AC particle electrode showed good electrocatalytic degradation ability for high concentration MB simulated wastewater in three-dimensional electrode system.The optimal loading capacity of Mn/AC particle electrode was 5%(mass fraction),and its electrocatalytic oxidation performance was better than that of Fe/AC and Ni/AC particle electrode.The electrocatalytic degradation rate of Mn(5)/AC in the three-dimensional electrode system was 90% after 8 h,and could still reach more than 80% after 200 h.In the electrocatalytic oxidation process,Mn2+,Mn3+ and Mn4+ on the surface of Mn/AC particle electrode could achieve catalytic cycling and produce active substances(hydroxyl radical and superoxide radical).Mn/AC particle electrode had the potential for long-term stable electrocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants in water.
