Abstract: Selection of active components and catalyst supporters was investigated in catalytic hydrodechlorination of carbon tetrachloride in liquid-phase and gas-phase.Active carbon was the best supporter and Pd was the suitable component in the liquid phase, while Al2O3 was the best supporter and Pt was the suitable component in the gas phase.Meanwhile, the performance of bimetallic catalyst formed by adding Cu and Ag in catalyic hydrodechlorination of carbon tetrachloride was also studied. It was found that adding Ag to form bimetallic catalyst increased the selectivity of CHCl3 in the liquid reaction and adding Cu  increased the selectivity of C2Cl4 in the gas reaction.
