Abstract: The thermodynamic data of the chemical reactions which may probably occur in the calcium carbide furnace was calculated by Factsage software.According to the physical and chemical changes, the critical constraints were set,and then the calcium carbide furnace was divided into four zones,i.e.,burden zone, reaction zone, melting drop zone, and molten pool zone.Based on this, the CaC2 formation mechanism was discussed, the influence of the impurities in the raw material was analyzed, and then the regional distributions of energy utilization were calculated. The results showed, the energy consumption of the four zones in the calcium carbide furnace accounted for 14.46%,12.40%,13.54%,and 43.21%,respectively,and energy loss accounted for 16.38%.Thus,the electricity use value in the different regions was comfirmed.
