Synthesis of γ-MnO2 nanorods by colloidal chemical method with natural sawdust template

Abstract: With MnCl2 and NaOH as raw materials,γ-MnO2 nanorods were successfully synthesized via colloidal chemical method by using the reproducible,low-cost,and porous sawdust as natural template.In the synthesis process,manganic hydroxide sol was firstly absorbed on the surface of the inner cavities in sawdust template to form sol/sawdust system.Then it converted into gel/sawdust system by the action of triethylamine gelling agent.Finally,the prepared gel precursor was transform into γ-MnO2 nanorods and sawdust was removed simultaneously by annealing at 475 ℃ for 5 h.The structure and morphology of the obtained sample were characterized by XRD and TEM tests.Results showed that the obtained samples were γ-MnO2 nanorods with the average diameter of about 10 nm and the average length of about 80 nm.
