Abstract: Lithium manganate (LiMn↓2O↓4) is a kind of cathode material for rechargeable lithium ion batteries, which has very high theoretical specific capacity. But its commercialization was baffled due to its serious specific capacity attenuation during the charge-discharge cycles. Therefore,it is very necessary to do research on its modification. This paper has summarized the development of this material in recent years and summed up its characteristics, such as high specific capacity, abundant raw material resources, low price and small environment pollution etc.as well as its applications in different fields. In addition, the structure features, principle and limitations of LiMn↓2O↓4 were also introduced in this paper.Especially, the recent synthesizing methods of this material and the research progress on its modification by rare earth were summarized emphatically. Moreover, the author classified and pointed out the influences of unitary rare earth-doping and multivariate rare earth-doping on the modification of the material as well as the existing problems. At the same time, the author also put forward the research&nbsp; direction and development prospect in the future. <BR>
