Abstract: Adding stearic acid to 45 μm ground calcium carbonate(GCC) pulp, modified CaCO3 pulp was prepared by grinding modification method,i.e.abrasive grinding and modification were performed simultaneously. Then CaCO3 powder was modified again after drying and crushing. Particle size, surface activation degree, oil absorption, and whiteness of the CaCO3 powder were analyzed by laser particle size analyzer and other analysis methods. It was found that the integration of abrasive grinding and modification for GCC could be realized simultaneously under room temperature. The particle size of CaCO3  was reduced to 2 μm from 45 μm after the abrasive grinding. With the increasing amounts of stearic acid, the activation degree of GCC increased, but its oil absorption decreased. When the amounts of stearic acid increased to 2%(mass fraction),the activation degree of GCC was over 98% and oil absorption reduced to 0.267 g/g.Results showed that the integration technology of abrasive grinding and modification for GCC have great significance to reduce the production cost and increase the competitiveness of the products.
