Study on preparation conditions of calcium sulphate whiskers from phosphogypsum

Abstract: Phosphogypsum is the solid waste from the wet-process phosphoric acid.It′s not only pollutes the environment,but also wastes many valuable resource.In order to promote the value of comprehensive utilization,the preparation of calcium sulfate whiskers with phosphogypsum as raw material was studied.The influences of phosphogypsum pre-processing,slurry concentration,crystal growth promoter,and pH on the whisker yield and morphology were investigated.The products were observed and detected by SEM,microscopic particles,and XRD.Through the pre-processing of raw materials,the optimal reaction conditions could be obtained as follows:the mass fraction of slurry was 2%,the crystal growth promoter was MgSO4,and pH=3.Under those conditions,the productivity ratio of calcium sulfate whiskers was up to 36.4%,the average aspect ratio was 60,and the product was CaSO4·0.5H2O whisker.
