Abstract: Determination of ferrate content by direct spectrophotometry was studied.Pretreatment method for ferrate solution was improved.Major factors, such as pH of ferrate solution, solvent, and solution temperature, influencing the stablity of ferrate solution and determination accuracy were investigated. Results showed that accurate result could be determined when adopting filtration method with G4 sintered glass funnel to pretreat ferrate solution, using 2% (mass fraction) potas-sium hypochlorite as thinner,at the temperature below 20 ℃,and at the maximum absorptive wavelength of 505 nm. 
