Abstract: In order to obtain monodisperse silica nanoparticles, and to improve the dispersion of silica nanoparticles in organic solvents, silica nanoparticles were successfully prepared by improved sol-gel method.Influences of R ratio\[R=c(H2O)/c(TEOS)\],ammonia concentration,TEOS concentration, and temperature on the particle size of nano-sized SiO2 were studied.Morphology and particle size were characterized by TEM.It was found that the particle size of nano-sized silica increased with the increasing of R ratio, ammonia concentration, and TEOS concentration, however, decreased with the increasing of reaction temperature. Then, the prepared silica nanoparticles were modified by using amphiphilic polyesters obtained by polycondensation of polyethyleneglycol and sebacic acid.Structure and dispersivity of the modified and unmodified nano-sized silica were characterized by FT-IR,TG,and TEM.Results showed that the modified nano-sized SiO2 had a better dispersion in toluene.
