Abstract: New research progress in preparation and application of polymeric ferric aluminium silicate sulfate (PAFSS) coagulant was introduced, and the coagulation mechanism and stability of PAFSS were also discussed. It was pointed that the key factor of preparing a good PAFSS coagulant was the control of amount-substance ratio of Al/Fe/Si,silicic acid concentration, temperature,pH,and adding sequence of aluminium and ferric salts. It can effectively delay the PAFSS coagulant′s gelation speed and improve its stability with adjusting pH,controling the concentration of SiO2,adding the absolute ethanol, normal butanol, acetone, and other stabilizers in PAFSS.In addition,in allusion to the present problems in application of polysilicates, the research direction in future was proposed.
