Abstract: With the sustainable development and utilization of clean energy，the development of photovoltaic industry was rapidly and poly-silicon industry emerged as the times demand.While producing trichlorosilane which was the raw material of preparing poly-silicon，a large amount of silicon tetrachloride as by-product was also manufactured，which was serious pollution to the environment.Therefore，rational treatment for silicon tetrachloride and realization of green production of poly-silicon industry was of great significance.The application status of silicon tetrachloride in China was reviewed.Principle and technology in the preparation of trichlorosilane，silica，silicate，and high purity silicon tetrachloride for optical fiber from silicon tetrachloride were introduced in detail and their merits and demerits were evaluated.The development trend of comprehensive utilization of silicon tetrachloride was also prospected.
