Study on purification process of sulfur by solvent method

In order to address the challenges of purifying sulfur as a by⁃product of the natural gas purification process and achieving high purity,combining the advantages of simple operation and low cost of solvent extraction method,and utilizing the principle of similar solubility,a process for purifying sulfur using solvent method was designed using CS2 as the solvent.The moisture content in sulfur slag was investigated through drying time,and the effects of drying time,liquid⁃solid ratio,leaching time,leaching temperature,and ball milling on sulfur yield were investigated using sulfur yield as an indicator.The purity of purified sulfur was analyzed by XRD and ICP.The results demonstrated that the optimal sulfur yield was achieved with a drying time of 60 min,a liquid⁃solid ratio of 8∶1(mL/g),a leaching time of 30 min,a leaching temperature of 30 ℃,and sulfur crushed into powder through ball milling.The solvent method yielded a remarkable 87.8%,representing a 2.5% increase compared to traditional sulfur purification methods such as the melting method(85.7%) and the gasification method(85.37%).Furthermore,the purified sulfur exhibited an impressive purity of 99.89%.The solvent method offered significant advantages including high yield,high purity,and simplicity of operation,thereby providing an effective technical approach for sulfur purification and holding potential for widespread application.
