Abstract

The high purity and industrial grade 60%NaNO3-40%KNO3(binary molten salt) were prepared by high temperature solid state method.Long time thermal cycling of 60%NaNO3-40%KNO3(binary molten salt) was measured by thermogravimetric method. It was shown that the weight loss of high purity binary molten salt was far less than industrial grade. The decomposition mechanism of binary molten salt was discussed. The density, viscosity, heat capacity and thermal diffusion coefficient of high purity and industrial grade 60%NaNO3-40%KNO3(binary molten salt) were determined by archimedean method, differential scanning calorimetry method, rotational coaxial cylinder method and laser flash method. And the data was analyzed and fitted to obtain the relationship between density and other properties with temperature changes. It was demonstrated that density, viscosity, heat capacity, and thermal conductivity of high purity binary molten salt were lower than industrial grade, which possessed good thermo-physical properties.
