Effect of crystal modifier and autoclave parameters on preparation of α-hemihydrate gypsum from phosphogypsum

Abstract

The α-hemihydrate gypsum was obtained by autoclave method from phosphogypsum as raw materials that was treated with saline solution,using ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid(EDTA) and maleic anhydride as crystal modifier in experiment.The effect of the content of composite crystal modifier,pH value,and autoclave temperature on the crystal morphology and phase composition of α-hemihydrate gypsum were studied by scanning electron microscope(SEM) and X-ray diffraction analysis(XRD).The test results showed that the optimum content of EDTA in the composite crystal modifier was 0.4%,the optimum content of maleic anhydride was 0.3%,the optimum pH value of the solution was 7.5,and the optimum autoclave temperature was 140 ℃.The obtained α-hemihydrate gypsum had the best crystalline form,with a short columnar shape and a length?to?diameter ratio close to 1∶1.
