Abstract

Precipitated cadmium carbonate(P-CdCO3) was prepared by direct blend method with sodium carbonate solution poured into cadmium sulfate solution. Then, the as-prepared P-CdCO3 was used as raw materials to produce cadmium hydro-xide[Cd(OH)2] nanomaterials with sodium hydroxide as transforming agent. The structure and morphology of P-CdCO3 and Cd(OH)2 nanomaterials were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction(XRD) and field-emission scanning electron micro-scope(FESEM).Results showed that the structure of P-CdCO3 was destroyed and the morphology of completely transformed Cd(OH)2 was irregular sphere assembled by sheets and totally different from P-CdCO3. Photocatalytic degradation of Rhoda-mine B under irradiation of UV light tests demonstrated that the transformed products had better photocatalytic degradation property than P-CdCO3 and different transformed products had various degradation efficiencies. The Rhodamine B could be degraded completely in 180 min under irradiation of 300 W mercury lamp with addition of best transformed product when 20 mg of transformed product was added into 50 mL of 8 mg/L Rhodamine B solution and the system was stirred for 120 min in dark to reach adsorption equilibrium.
