Research on synthesis of barium sulfate by ion-exchange method

Abstract

Barium sulfate was synthesized by ion-exchange method,with barium carbonate and potassium sulfate as raw ma-terials.The effects of preparation parameters on the yield of barium sulfate was investigated.X-ray diffraction(XRD),scan-ning electron microscopy(SEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR) were used to characterize crystalline and morphology.The results showed that the yield of barium sulfate was up to 98.25% under the optimal conditions,such as c(SO4 2-)=0.007 5 mol/L,liquid-solid mass ratio of 800∶1(g/g),reaction temperature of 30 ℃ and reaction time of 72 h.The obtained barium sulfate was regular flake with crystalline integrity and high purity.
