Preparation of iron aluminate with activated carbon template and its flame retardant application on flexible PVC

With iron sulfate and aluminum sulfate as raw materials,iron aluminate flame retardant was prepared using acti-vated carbon treated with phosphoric acid as template.The prepared iron aluminate was investigated by X-ray diffraction(XRD) and infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR).The flame retardant and smoke dissipation property of iron aluminate flame retar-dant on flexible polyvinyl chloride(PVC) were characterized by the limiting oxygen index test(LOI) and smoke density test(SDR).The results showed when the amount of 5%(mass fraction) iron aluminate was used,LOI and SDR was 32.8% and 55.45%,respectively,tensile strength was 18.36 MPa,elongation was 214%.The thermal degradation of flame retardant PVC were studied by using thermal analysis(TG).The results demonstrated that iron aluminate can be used as a highly effective flame retardant for flexible PVC.
