Organic modification and physicochemical properties of magnesium lithium silicate

Abstract: <FONT face=Verdana>Organic modification on magnesium lithium silicate was carried out by cation exchange method using cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB),cetylpyridinium bromide (CPB),and octadecylamine (ODA) as organic modifiers.Synthesized samples were characterized by small angle X-ray diffraction (SAXD),FT-IR,TG,and SEM.Also,pore size distribution and specific surface area of the samples were measured.Experimental results showed that all of the three organic modifiers intercalated into the interlayer of magnesium lithium silicate and the interlayer spacing was increased.Especially,the interlayer spacing of ODA-magnesium lithium silicate increased to 2.09 nm.Besides,dispersibility of modified magnesium lithium silicate in organic solvents and polymer monomers was improved.</FONT>
