Preparation,characterization,and application of polyaluminium chloride containing high concentration Al13

Abstract: Polyaluminium chloride (PAC) containing high concentration poly 13 aluminum (Al<SUB>13</SUB>) was prepared using calcium aluminiate ore powder as main raw material by the technology of alkai dissolve-neutralization polymerization-medium temperature slaking.Morphology of aluminium in the product was characterized by XRD.Contents of Al<SUB>13</SUB>,Al<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB>,and impurities as well as basicity were tested by using Al-Ferron time complex colorimetic method,ICP-MS,and other chemical analysis methods.Effects in the remove rate of turbidity and residual aluminum ion mass concentration in disposed water by using PAC products with different Al morphologies were compared.Results of XRD showed that Al was mainly existed in the form of Al<SUB>13</SUB>(OH)<SUB>25</SUB>Cl<SUB>15</SUB>.Chemical tested results indicated that the content of Al<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> was 16.5% and Al<SUB>13</SUB> was more than 95.5% respectively;basicity of PAC with high concentration Al<SUB>13</SUB> was 78.5%;turbidity remove rate of disposed water was up to 98.5%;and residual Al<SUP>3+</SUP> mass concentration was 0.08 mg/L.Prepared PAC containing high concentration Al<SUB>13</SUB>measured up to the standard of aluminium salt additive in medicine and daily cosmetics.
