Abstract: In order to remove the dangerous heavy metals(chromium, cadmium, lead, and manganese) in the FGD waste solutions, magnesium hydroxide sorbent was added into the magnesium sulfate solution for chemical adsorption.Removing effects of chromium, cadmium, lead, and manganese were detected by ICP-AES.It was found that the removing effects for chromium and lead were more than 95%,respectively;the removing effects for cadmium and manganese were about 40%;the used magnesium hydroxide could be transformed into the magnesium oxide after three times′ light sintering, which could also keep the removing rate of lead more than 90%;and when pH=5 the magnesium hydroxide′s removing effect for cadmium reduced the most, however,it had less effect on the other heavy metals. Therefore, with regard to the magnesium desulfurization, the use of magnesium hydroxide which was a green water treatment agent could obtain good results in the removal of heavy metals without other impurities induced into the solution.
