Abstract: Sensitized solar cell is one of the hot research topics in the field of clean energy, emerging as the most promising photovoltaic device for the third-generation solar cells. As one of the photoelectrodes for sensitized solar cell, titanium dioxide has been widely studied. Therefore, the structural progress of TiO2 photoanodes in two decades was mainly summarized. The application characteristics of various structures were reviewed and discussed from the aspects of electron injection efficiency,electron-transporting,and basal charge collection efficiency. For state-of-the-art TiO2 photoelectrode, the sandwich-like archi- tecture consisted of a TiO2 ultrathin conformal overcoating layer,a TiO2 working layer, and a TiO2 blocking layer.Following was an overview of techniques and characteristics for fabricating titanium dioxide one dimensional nanoarrays in the TiO2 working layer. Finally, the trends of ideal TiO2-based photoanode structures and possible synthetic approaches were proposed.
