Surface modification of Mg-Al composite flame retardant with fatty acid

Abstract: Mg-Al composite flame retardant was prepared via sluggish precipitation method,and the composite was modified by using fatty acid.The Mg-Al compounds,before and after modification,were characterized through X-ray diffraction,Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,transmission electron microscopy,scanning electron microscopy,and hydrophilic-lipophilic analysis.The modification process was also optimized.Research results showed when the modifier was stearic acid and its dosage was 1.0% of the sample′s mass,the sample got the best dispersity and compatibility with organic system.
