Abstract: The oxidation behavior of iodide ions contained in nature brine to iodine was studied by spectrophotometric method with two different oxidants(0.5% NaClO and 1.0% H2O2, mass fraction). The optimal dosage of NaClO and H2O2 were deter- mined to be 0.6 mL and 1.7 mL every 200 mL brine, corresponding to the optimal pH of 4.8 and 3.0,and the optimal reaction time of 30 min and 70 min, respectively. The excessive oxidation problems of iodine by these two oxidants were also investigated and the relationship between absorbance and excessive oxidation degree of iodine was given in this paper.
