Abstract: Chromium tanning agent has been regarded as the important material of the manufacture of light leather recently. Chromium and chromate residue used for producing chromium tanning agents is one of low-cost methods，but its iron levels effect the quality of chromium tanning agents.Various iron removal methods，such as organic complexation and extraction method，applied in the production of chromium tanning agents were introduced in detail，then they were compared in the aspects of reaction principle，process，and iron removal effect，evaluating the technical advantages and disadvantages by using different production methods.At last，the application potentials of low-iron chromium tanning agents were prospected.
