Abstract: Integrated oxidation, adsorption, flocculation, sterilization, and deodorization, potassium ferrate (Ⅵ) is considered as an environmental-friendly and multi-functional agent for water treatment. It has a stronger oxidizing power comparing with potassium permanganate, ozone, and chlorine.Reaction principle, advantages, and disadvantages of three methods for preparing potassium ferrate were introduced. At the same time, physical properties, oxidizability, stability, and application in water treatment of potassium ferrate were summarized.Synergetic effects of coupling technique of potassium ferrate were analyzed based on China and overseas research progress, and the application of potassium ferrate in alkaline batteries was also discussed. In order to make useful and helpful reference to further research and application of potassium ferrate (Ⅵ),some problems and countermeasures were pointed out and the prospect in this field was also presented.
