Abstract: As the adsorbent, the adsorption performance of palygorskite clay in Xining basin to Pb2+ was studied.Influences of the factors, such as modified methods of clay, stirring time, clay dosage, adsorption temperature, and initial Pb2+ mass concentration of the solution,on adsorption effects were investigated. Results showed that the palygorskite clay in Xining basin exhibited good adsorption performance to Pb2+;when using sulfuric acid modifying the clay, the appropriate amount of sulfuric acid was 0.049 g per 10 g clay;and the appropriate adsorption conditions were that stirring time of 50 min,clay dosage of 0.10~0.15 g/100 mL Pb2+ solution, and room temperature.Under these conditions, the adsorption capacity of Pb2+ onto the clay reached over 107 mg/g when the initial mass concentration of Pb2+ in the solution was 107.65 mg/L and the removal ratio of Pb2+ was about 100%.Within the range of experimental mass concentration, the adsorption of Pb2+ onto the clay was consistent with Langmuir isotherm.
