Abstract: As one kind of high efficient and clean energy，natural gas is increasingly required with the improvement of people′s living standard and the rapid development of world industry.Demand of natural gas will exceed supply for a long time in Chi- na.As a kind of coal clean utilization，vigorous development of coal to natural gas technology can not only effectively ease en- ergy crisis，but also improve the environment situation in China.The current situation of coal to natural gas，including the de- velopment progress of coal to natural gas technology at home and abroad and research status of methanation catalysts was summarized.The progress of active sites，additives，carriers，and also the opportunity and challenge of coal to natural gas in China were introduced emphatically.
