Abstract:  of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering,Xianyang Normal University,Xianyang 712000,China) Abstract:Cu-Mg-Al hydrotalcite-like compound was prepared by liquid phase co-precipitation method, and intercalating modification was also made by ion exchange method with lauric acid as the modifier. The composition, structure and morphol- ogy of hydrotalcite-like compound before and after the modification were characterized and analyzed by infrared spectrometer. Results showed that the product was Cu-Mg-Al-CO3 hydrotalcite and the modified product was Cu-Mg-Al-lauric hydrotal- cite. The modified and un-modified hydrotalcite were added in a proportion of 3%(mass fraction) respectively to the base for- mulation to prepare a friction lining materials. The law of friction coefficient of those prepared friction lining materials changed with temperature was tested by XD-MSM constant speed friction tester. The density of friction lining materials was also tested by hydrostatic densitometer. Results showed that un-modified hydrotalcite adding into the friction lining materials could reduce the friction coefficient, however, the modified one could increase the friction coefficient due to the expansion of particle size;and the modified one could also reduce the density of friction lining materials.

Key words: hydrotalcite-like compound, intercalating modification, friction factor, lauric acid
